Police says in a profession where courage is tested daily and the dangers facing police officers are ever-present, SAPS gathered in Galeshewe on the 15th September 2026, for the annual Northern Cape SAPS provincial prayer day. Police spokesperson colonel Laaiqah de Saldanha says held during police safety month, the service provided an opportunity for police management, members and stakeholders to pause from the demands of policing and come together in prayer, remembrance and reflection, while reaffirming their commitment to protecting communities and safeguarding those who serve. De Saldanha says the symbolic lighting of the candle served as a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by police officers in service to the people of South Africa, while highlighting the collective responsibility to strengthen police safety and ensure that every member returns home safely.
