From Campus to the National Stage: Lidené Kruger's Triumph Sparks Hope Across South Africa

The Sol Plaatje University says it takes pride as one of their bright stars prepares to make waves on the national stage. The SPU says, the first-year student and dedicated rugby talent, Lidené Kruger, has been selected for the Springbok Women’s Sevens Training Squad.

The university says, this marks a significant milestone in her promising athletic career.

In a statement the institution says, as a recipient of a sports bursary and a key recruit in SPU’s high-performance program, she earned her spot at the upcoming national training camp in Cape Town, scheduled from August 3 to 15, 2025, at the renowned Stellenbosch Academy of Sport. SPU says, her rapid ascent in the sport caught the attention of scouts early this year, leading her to become a vital player for the Griquas Women’s Rugby Team.

SPU says it is committed to nurturing women’s sport, especially rugby.
