Sol Plaatje University (SPU) successfully hosted the launch of the Northern Cape Teaching for All programme
Sol Plaatje University hosted the launch of the Northern Cape Teaching for All programme on 30 July, 2025. SPU says this launch marked a significant step forward in advancing inclusive education in the province. According to SPU, the teacher professional development initiative is led by the British Council in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, the Northern Cape Department of Education, and SPU.
Reports indicate that the programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of teacher educators, student teachers, in-service teachers and policymakers by embedding inclusive teaching modules into the core training frameworks of universities and provincial education departments. Its long-term goal is to contribute to a thriving, inclusive and equitable South African education system where every teacher is equipped to create joyful and effective learning environments that support all learners in reaching their full potential.
In her welcoming remarks, SPU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Debra Meyer, highlighted how the programme aligns with the university’s mission and its strong commitment to social justice and educational equity. Meyer stated that inclusive education is already integrated into the core of SPU's academic programmes and research agenda
