Home Affairs Committee Takes Marriage Bill to the People
The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs is engaging communities nationwide on the proposed Marriage Bill. Chairperson Mosa Chabane says the campaign aims to reach all provinces and raise awareness about changes to marriage laws. So far, five provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, have been reached. Speaking on Radio Riverside, Chabane highlighted the department’s role in regulating marriage officers.

In response, Chabane said the bill aims to protect partners in long-term, unregistered relationships, especially women, and ensure legal clarity. Public hearings will continue in the North West, Free State, Northern Cape, and Limpopo.
