NC Department of Roads and Public works infrastructure repairs
The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works says it has intensified its efforts to rebuild and reinforce critical infrastructure across the Namaqua District following recent flood damage and ongoing wear on local roadways. As part of the department's ongoing flood recovery efforts, engineers of the department have conducted comprehensive assessments of several flood-damaged bridges near Kamasies, Rooifontein, Nourivier, and Rooiwal.
The department says these assessments are a vital step in the their broader mission to create climate-resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding increasingly severe weather events.
In addition to major infrastructure assessments, the department has launched visible, labour-intensive road restoration projects under the Vala Zonke initiative. In Bergsig, Namaqua District, pothole repairs are currently underway along Dr. Izak van Niekerk Street.
This initiative focuses on rehabilitating damaged roads one pothole at a time, ensuring safer and more accessible routes for local residents.
