Upington community raised concerns over funds
Members of the ZF Mgcawu community have raised concerns about what they perceive as a double standard in the United Nations' handling of international issues—specifically, its stance on aid delivery in Gaza versus its perceived inaction on issues affecting South Africa.
This comes after the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) rejected a proposal by Israeli authorities to overhaul the aid system in Gaza. OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke, speaking from Geneva, stated that the plan falls short of core humanitarian principles such as impartiality, neutrality, and the independent delivery of aid.
The agency said, Laerke said Israel’s proposal appears aimed at tightening control and limiting supplies, which runs counter to the urgent need for unimpeded humanitarian access.
Local community members in ZF Mgcawu expressed frustration, claiming the UN is quick to intervene in Gaza, but remains silent on critical issues in South Africa.
