Upington community members raised concerns over sexual harassment
Some men in Upington have expressed concern about rising reports of sexual harassment, particularly within institutions of power. This follows the resumption of the Judicial Conduct Tribunal today, 7 May 2025, in the case involving Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge.
The tribunal is hearing the cross-examination of Dr. Zakeera Docrat, a forensic and legal linguist, as part of the investigation into allegations made by High Court secretary Andiswa Mengo. Mengo accused the judge of making unwanted sexual advances toward her in 2023.
The case has sparked public debate and raised questions about accountability and the protection of women in professional environments, especially in the legal system.
