Mec for the northern cape of roads and public works speaks at the Exco outreach program feedback session

The Northern Cape MEC for Roads and Public Works, Fufe Makatong spoke at the Exo Outreach Program feedback session, led by Premier Dr. Zamani Saul, yesterday in Richmond. According to a statement by the department, the MEC reported at her turn to the community of Richmond, that the Department of roads and public works is committed to working with municipalities across the Province, to safeguard road infrastructure and making it user friendly and one of the projects in place in order to achieve this is through the rooting out the dust program. She also added that the Department will work closely with the Ubuntu Local Municipality, to make the roads safer. Makatong says as of the 1st of July 2023, about 500 job opportunities will be created through the EPWP program and further mentioned that, of the 500 job opportunities created, 100 vacancies will be available for young people in the Ubuntu local Municipality while through the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA), the Department will train 13 young people from the Ubuntu local Municipality on the second intake of the learnership, wherein they will undergo artisan training. Through engagements with the South African Road Agency (Sanral), about 60km of the national road (N1) which passes through the Ubuntu Municipality in Ritchmond, will be rehabilitated.
