The Head of the Department (HOD) of the Department of Roads and Public Works, Dr. Johny Mac Kay, during his opening remarks, In the recent  Public Works Green Building Sector Workshop highlighted that the human race will continue to experience the consequence of their abusive lifestyles towards mother earth unless people use natural resources ethically and responsibly and transform to built the environment. The Northern Cape government says that  sustainable and renewable solutions can only be reached through collective efforts. The second day of the Green Building Sector Workshop concluded with a site visit to the Droogfontein Solar Park approximately 20 kilometers outside Kimberley. The department states that Solar energy is a clean, renewable, cost-effective and pollution-free energy source.
